Customary Units – English system of measurement defined as a set of weights and measures used for measuring length, weight, capacity, and temperature.

Metric Units - An international decimal system of weights and measures, based on the meter for length and the kilogram for mass.

Concepts

Converting between two units of metric measurements.

Rules

1. Multiply or divide by powers of ten to convert between metric units.
2. Change all the measurements to the same unit and compare it.

Example 

Select the two equivalent measurements. 

Solution

Change each measurement to mm.
1 cm = 10 mm    To convert cm to mm, multiply by 10.
1 mm = 0.1 cm   To convert mm to cm, divide by 10.

350 cm × 10 = 3,500 mm
0.35 cm × 10 = 3.5 mm 
3.5 cm × 10 = 35 mm

Answer: 35 mm = 0.35 cm
