A ratio is a statement of how two numbers compare. It is a comparison of the size of one number to the size of another number. Ratios can be written as a fraction or with a colon x:y.

Example

Type the ratio of stars to circles.

Solution

The order of the values in a ratio relates directly to the order of the quantities described: 
stars to circles

a. The first number (on the left) will be the number of stars shown.

b. The number of circles will go in the box on the right.
