Concept

An algebraic function usually has numerical inputs and outputs and is often defined by an algebraic expression or rule. An input-output table is a table that shows how a value changes according to the rule. The algebraic function involves variables and algebraic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. 

Rule

Input/ Output Tables:

The input is the value of $x$ that is applied to the algebraic function. The output is the answer that is received as a result of putting $x$ into the function.

Example

Complete the table.

Input ($x$)	Output (10$x$)
2	20
4
6
8

Solution

The values for the variable ($x$) is given in the Input column.
To find the Output, insert the numbers into the equation (10$x$), and evaluate.

Input ($x$)	Output (10$x$)
2	(10 × 2) = 20
4	(10 × 4) = 40
6	(10 × 6) = 60
8	(10 × 8) = 80
